Last fall I participated in an online workshop / residency, Politics in Collage, through the Kolaj Institute in New Orleans. Over the course of a month, the group explored the history and practice of collage as a tool to "tackle complex socio-political issues", examining ways in which to respond to the current moment through meaningful, visual dialogue sparked using collage techniques. My contribution to the catalogue, Collage Saves the World, is woMEn, a composite portrait borrowing from Rogier van der Weyden's 15th c painting, Portrait of a Lady. The collage is intended to describe the prescribed interpretations of gender within the history of Western art. For information and to purchase the book
